Historical Traditions: Weißenburg and the "Schützenzeche"
As a free imperial town, Weißenburg has been solely under the emperor’s rule for centuries. The traditional festival "Schützenzeche" dates back to those glorious days and honours the expert shooters who should defend the town. On this festival, they march on the Marktplatz square and the Mayor announces the names of the most skilled of them. Weißenburg’s target shooting associations take part to the parade in their traditional costumes or uniforms and are accompanied by no less than three bands.
