The "Stabenfest" in Nördlingen
Celebrating instead of going to school: for the children from Nördlingen this dream comes true once a year. The "Stabenfest" is a traditional festival of medieval origins and is celebrated with a colourful parade that wanders through the town. Girls have garlands of flowers on their head, boys wear the traditional costume of the Ries region and children wave sticks decorate with flowers and flags and receive sweets. At the end of the parade, celebrations go on on the Kaiserwiese with a small funfair and a beer tent.
